Summary
NorthScan is designed to keep your documents private. Scans are stored locally on your device unless you choose to share, export or back them up.
Local Storage
NorthScan is local-first. Scans, folders, tags, OCR text and library metadata are intended to live on your device for core use.
If you export, share, back up or move files using Apple services or third-party apps, those actions are controlled by the destination you choose.
OCR Processing
NorthScan may use Apple-native text recognition to help make scans searchable. OCR is designed around on-device processing where supported by iOS.
Document Intelligence
Document intelligence features, such as suggestions or scan-mode improvements, are intended to improve organisation and image quality without requiring an account or advertising profile.
Quick Share
Quick Share lets you send a scan as a PDF or JPEG. A document only leaves your device when you choose a sharing destination such as Messages, Mail, AirDrop, Files or another app.
Photos and Files Import
If you import from Photos or Files, NorthScan receives the items you select. It does not need broad access to every document unless you explicitly grant system permissions.
No Advertising Tracking
NorthScan is not designed around advertising tracking. It does not sell personal data and does not require an account for core scanning workflows.
iCloud Sync (Optional)
NorthScan offers optional iCloud sync. When you turn it on, your scans and library metadata synchronise through your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so your documents stay within your personal Apple account and are not sent to NorthVault servers. iCloud sync stays off until you enable it, and you can turn it off at any time. When it is disabled, your documents remain local to your device.
